The Merrill family has been traced in large part to the county of Suffolk in England and a number of them from the 1400-1600s lived just across the river from Ipswich. You can find most of the ancestry within the villages of Belstead and Wherstead during this time period. After this, it appears there were only a few Merrills that are recorded as staying in this area or were not listed at all.
Mouse over the link for Family tree in the menu above to go to some of the earlier information we have about the Merrill/Meryell family in these villages and surrounding country. More information will be forthcoming in the future about the early Merrills and of course there is always a place for your input as well. Please include your documentation where it applies.
The church in the picture above is St. Mary’s in Wherstead. More on it can be found at the Wherstead.com website.
